711 Marijuana Plants Seized From Welches Home

On September 23rd, Clackamas County Sheriffs executed a search warrant at the home of David Michael Harvey, 36, and Karla Suzanne Harvey, 36. During the search, investigators found a total of 711 plants, 342 plants in the garage, and 369 plants in a spare bedroom of the home, including interior lighting systems, foil panels for reflection, and a ventilation system. The total street value is estimated at more than $2.1 million, and was seized along with a suspicious five-pound batch of "chocolate" from the couple's kitchen, suspecting marijuana could be an ingredient of the fudgy substance.

During the arrest in the quiet Mt. Hood village of Welches, Harvey didn't allow police to take him easily. He was reported as yanking himself free from a deputy sheriff's grasp while handcuffed - he allegedly ran into the woods while being pursued by two deputies. They struggled with him, Harvey kicked one of the deputies in the face, and head butted the other before finally being captured and jailed. He is charged with unlawful manufacture of marijuana, second degree escape, assaulting a police officer, first degree child neglect, resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a minor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, and faces arraignment on October 31, and will go to trial on November 17. Karla Harvey was released from custody on September 25th, and faces charges of endangering the welfare of a minor, child neglect, and manufacturing of a controlled substance.
