Sandy Gas Prices Lowest in Area

When gas prices revealed themselves to be quickly passing the price of a gallon of milk, I realized things may never be the same. Obviously there was no sense in searching out the cheapest gallon of gas, since we live in a secluded mountain area the simple solution was to continue to buy the outrageously high priced auto fuel, grumbling all the while of course. Then it dawned on me, part of the irritation of paying such high gas prices was that the milk was equal in price for a gallon, but the milk would last a few days, and the gas would merely last a few miles. What if I seek out a cheaper gallon of milk? Sounds entirely crazy, I know...but that's what I did - and until now it felt pretty good paying $1.99 for my milk. Did it help me save? Definitely not, but it gave me some sense of thriftiness to have saved a few cents somewhere on my quest for cheaper gas, and if I bought my milk and gas together, everything seemed to even out...sort of.

Well this morning I caught a sight I hadn't seen in over a year, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded was just $2.31 (and I say that like it's a good thing!) But compared to the $3.29 gas we were seeing in some areas last year, it's a huge chunk of money saved on a tank of gas. But then I realized that not everyone was aware of the low prices at the Sandy Arco - and someone had to bring it to the attention of others...right? Just head East on Hwy 26 through the small town of Sandy, and you'll see the Arco on the left hand side of the road just before you leave town towards Mt. Hood. You'll be glad you did - for the first time in many years, I was able to fill a half a tank with under $10 - such a deal!

So, now I'm curious...how much is gas in your area? Sandy Arco displayed $2.31 this morning, two days ago Welches 76 Station was still hovering at $2.49 (they seem to like it there!) I know there are differences between station prices as well, so if you spot an Arco out there, it's a good reference point. And by the way, if you happen to notice...how much is a gallon of milk?

  1. Just a sidenote to this post: I just passed the same Arco this evening, and the price is now down to $2.29 - amazing. There's really more to it, you see - a year ago's prices were so extremely outrageous, the now "lower" prices seem reasonable to us. It's nearly one of the greatest advertising ploys created...raise the prices so high we can't see straight, then lower them just enough to make us think they've gone down, when in reality we're still paying a dollar more than when we thought prices were high a few years ago. Hmmm....
